The portrait of Coco Chanel

-TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT THE EXHIBITION YOU ARE PART IN?
The exhibition is based on an idea of art curator Maria Charachristou and it will take part in Lola Nikolaou gallery in Thessaloniki, Greece. It’s about an exhibition/homage to Coco Chanel, entitled “Coco, Like Her”. Artists and fashion designers were invited to explore the synonyms of the French legend. I feel glad to have the chance to participate as a young artist.

-WHAT KIND OF RESEARCH DID YOU MAKE FOR THE FAMOUS DESIGNER?
Although I knew many things about life and work of Chanel, the last months I watched some movies about her and looked for some books in order to get closer to her. I was excited!

-WHAT DID AFFECT YOU TO CREATE THE PAINTING?
Well, I decided to create her portrait because she was a great personality. I wanted to do something that will represent her through my eyes and that was not easy. But I don’t like “easy” things anyway.  The last years I am working on some portraits with the same technique so I thought  that it will be a challenge for me to “touch” Chanel  with  my “romantic corruption”.

-DO YOU BELIEVE THAT THROUGH YOUR WORK-PAINTING, THE PERSONALITY AND STYLE OF COCO CHANEL, RELEAVED?
That’s a hard question! And I like it! I can’t be sure about that, because I create a portrait and the way I work my portraits doesn’t reflects reality.  Coco Chanel was a strong personality, a power full woman with elegance and I just wanted to create something strong…like her. I wish I did it!

-DO YOU BELIEVE THAT THE PAINTING HAVE SOMETHING OF YOUR OWN STYLE AND PERSONALITY?
Obviously! I’m inspired by materials, I mean nothing is useless for me, I can see a treasure in everything. I collect things because I’m attracted by a kind of romantic corruption that some objects have. Art gives me the power to “recycle” some objects. That’s why I am using materials to my portraits. For Chanel, I used some fashion stuff like buttons, pearls, fabric, scissors, clothes hangers etc. Chanel means black and white and life is black and white too…

-TELL US 5 THINGS WE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU AND YOU WANT TO KNOW!
Some may think that I travel all the time, the truth is that I have never traveled to another country yet. I learned how to ride a bicycle about a year ago (he laughs). When I fall in love I can sacrifice everything (at last, that’s not good). I love dolls! Plastic, porcelain, all of them! For the end, I can say that art is the best fuck I ever had!
